As soon as we complete our college or by the time our college comes to an end the one thing that takes over everyone's mind is "Placement" and the other thing is "Package". Most of the B.Tech graduates are nowadays in the dilemma that whether or not they have made a right decision by opting a field in engineering or they have made a blunder. Nevertheless, there are people who might have already graduated in previous years but unluckily they could not make it there into the silicon valley.
If you want to find a job then follow:Well, it is obvious that we have made a mistake knowingly or unknowingly, yet no harm is done as they can be eliminated. The preparing for interview part is the last step but what are the basics? Obviously the subjects related to your field of interest and the most important of them is "APTITUDE".
Since, you are a graduate with a decent degree in a decent technology regardless of the college/university/city/state or any other thing you are required to have a good aptitude which is the first step to your success towards securing a job.
Now, I won't debrief the importance of aptitude since a company/organization will hire you only if you can handle stuff and some problems. That is one of the reasons they test these skills which some of you might be knowing very well.
So, what should we do to be good at aptitude?
It's simple, practice from the books like, R.S Aggarwal. We'll recommend "TIME" institute's study material or any book that can take your level to that of CAT. The most commonly asked sections are, Quantitative, Data Interpretation, Reading Comprehension, Synonyms, Basic Grammar (sentence completion/correction), Para jumbles and last but not the least, Puzzles. Once, you complete this stuff and you are good to go.
In order to increase your vocabulary start reading "Word Power Made Easy - By Norman Lewis" and do follow the mnemonics website. Skills to use these words can be build up by reading the editorial page of "The Hindu".
One way is to go for campus drives and walk-ins. The good way is to sit for tests: "e-litmus" and "AMCAT" to stand out of the crowd.
If you've not registered yet then go for it but make sure you have met all the requirements of the exam and do check with the syllabus on their official websites. AMCAT asks questions related to your branch so make sure you prepare for it whereas, you can skip this when you're going for e-litmus.
Now, when you complete these test and after your results you'll have to keep an eye on the companies and their openings for different posts on the websites of these exams by logging in to your account. Note that if you are looking for a job in a programming field like software engineer then make sure you are at par with the skills required. Some of the skills required by everyone are:
- Data Structures
- Algorithms
- In depth knowledge of C, C++ and JAVA (core)
- DBMS and OS (for programmers)
- For web designing post (C#, HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript)
You've reached to your goal now.
Still not satisfied? No problem let us see the other option since there is always another way.
Confused between whether to go for GMAT or GRE. Now you won't because GMAT requires at least 3-5 years of job experience.
Moreover, you can ditch the myth that GRE is for masters in fields other than management, since GRE scores are accepted for MBA also but its better to you have a job experience if you want to land into a B-school.
Do you have a job experience?
Yes? Then go for it (GMAT).
No? Just chuck it and start preparing for GRE.
What about CAT and GATE?
Thanks to the reservation system of India which is so good that most of the deserving people could not get through these exams and therefore they seek for GMAT and GRE which does not have any reservation.
How to prepare for them?
log on to their official web-sites and follow the rest by purchasing their books for the same.
