Facebook Shows Friend Log In Counts, Passive Aggressively Nudges You To Post
Facebook appears to be testing a new feature — a counter at the top of your news feed (right below the “update status” box) that tells you either that “X friends logged in recently” or “Your friends haven’t seen a post from you for X days.”
The new features were spotted by Techie Buzzand also tweeted by Huffington Post senior editor Craig Kanalley. I’ve emailed Facebook for more details, and I’ll update when I hear back.
TC reader Tim O’Neil says he has also seen a different version of the update status prompt: Instead of the usual “what’s on your mind?” he saw “start a conversation”. Since Techie Buzz
Facebook Hides Your Email Address Leaving Only @Facebook.com Visible. Undo This Poppycock Now
In an attempt to improve email address privacy, Facebook has screwed up big time in what seems like a self-serving attempt to increase usage of @facebook.com email addresses that direct to your Facebook Messages Inbox.
Now everyone’s personal email addresses have been hidden from their profiles, regardless of previously selected privacy settings. Instead, your@facebook.

Ex-Googlers Launch MightyText, An iMessage For Android Users
During their lengthy careers at Google in both senior technical and product management roles, Maneesh Arora and Amit Sangani were able to geek out on products like AdSense, AdWords, and the now-defunct Google Health. Arora tells us that, while his time at Google was defined by smart people and ambitious ideas like these, in development there was often a tendency to “over engineer” without thinking about “the average user.” He said that, while Google employees always had Gchat open and used
‘Find Friends Nearby’: Facebook’s New Mobile Feature For Finding People Around You [Updated]
Facebook has created a new feature that lets users find friends and potential friends nearby. Initially called “Friendshake” and also accessible through a URL that is the abbreviation of “find friends nearby” (http://fb.com/ffn), it’s another step in Facebook furthering its reach into mobile, and creating services to meet new people — rather than building up more connectivity with the ones you already know. And, in keeping with Facebook’s emphasis on being as ubiquitous as possible, for now it’s not being delivered in a native app, but viathe mobile web. Update: it’s accessible via Facebook’s mobile apps, too (see below the break for more details, including comments from the developer).
The service comes a little under two months after Facebook announced the acquisition of Glancee,
Radio wars: Can the new Spotify feature challenge Pandora’s legacy
Spotify's new radio feature will challenge Pandora, but here's a harder look at how the two services stack up.
Today, Spotify announced its new radio feature for its iOS app. The music streaming service’s desktop client has long had this capability, but the mobile version has only offered up pre-made playlists or searchable content. The introduction has, to no one’s surprise, culminated in a renewed wave of “watch out, Pandora.” So, should it?
Best class system in RPGs belongs to Wizardry VII
One of the defining characteristics of the role-playing genre is its class systems. Although not every RPG has classes – Fallout or The Witcher, for example – some tend to be notable for their lack of classes. In some games, class is a single, permanent decision at the beginning of your adventure, and in others it's something that can be manipulated throughout. In most cases, though, it is the single most important aspect in determining how your characters interact with the game world. Thieves
Shouryya Ray, 16-Year-Old 'Genius,' Didn't Actually Solve Newton's 350-Year-Old Mathematical Problem
It was widely reported by the media last month that 16-year-old Shouryya Ray hadsolved a problem first posed by Sir Isaac Newton over 350 years ago that has baffled mathematicians ever since.
The Indian-born student, who lives in eastern Germany and was conducting an internship at Technische Universität Dresden, was hailed as a genius for working out two fundamental particle dynamics equations that previously could only be approximated using computers with partial solutions. Ray’s solutions allegedly allowed for exact calculation of a

Snapshot: LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes
There are so many games out there we couldn't possibly review them all. Welcome to Snapshot, where we highlight games that might fall outside our usual coverage but are still something we think you should know about. Today: LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and PC.
I have a real soft spot for Travellers Tales' LEGO games. They certainly aren't the pinnacle of innovation, and they're not exactly on the bleeding edge of video game technology. Quite the contrary, they are simple and unembellished, using familiar mechanics and tried-and-true concepts. And, of course, LEGO titles all charm with their lampooning of whatever series they're based on, be it Star Wars, Harry Potter or Batman.
In other words, Lego games might not be groundbreaking, but they're generally reliable. In that respect, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes seems no different, though it adds a wrinkle or two.

Criterion Takes Over Entire Need For Speed Series
Gamers were ecstatic when developer Criterion signed on for its first Need for Speed title in 2009, and with its second NFS game coming this fall in Most Wanted, the studio is poised to take full control of the franchise.
We talked to Criterion vice president Alex Ward at E3, and he revealed that from now on Criterion will be in charge of the entire franchise. When asked whether he thought EA's original plan to release a Need for Speed title of some kind every year was watering down the series, Ward said, "Maybe it's been that way in the past, but that's changed this year with what we're doing… Our stamp's going to be in everything you see in Need for Speed and Burnout going forward in the future. It's not going to be spread anymore across different companies. Different studios have had a crack at it - it's definitely a Criterion gig now.
"Going forward now, with Most Wanted and

Dreamworks is making the Need for Speed movie
Back in April, we heard that EA, script in hand, was courting several film companies (Paramount, Warner Bros. and Sony, specifically) over the prospect of making a movie based on the Need For Speed franchise. As it turns out, Dreamworks has taken the bait and will be fast-tracking the project for a 2014 release, the company announced today.
The screenplay, penned by brothers George and John Gatins, is not based on any specific game in the franchise, but rather the series as a whole, which means that the movie will have cars in it and be called "Need for Speed." It'll be directed by

Windows 8 and Non Touch
Introduction
There has been a lot of noise on the windows platform going touch, multitouch and what not and everybody seems to like it. The web is filled with thousands of positive reviews about it and how it will make using tablets a breeze. But as an avid desktop user or even worse a laptop owner it is gonna take a toll of my hands. Passing my hands on the touchpad just to move from one side of screen to another is simply not an easy task and the RC Video of Microsoft makes me believe in the concept of Laptop-in-the-Microsoft-way which believes in having a touchscreen mounted on laptop keyboard.

How to Access Facebook When it is Blocked in Office, School or Workplace
You may be a working professional in a corporate environment and the sad thing is that Facebook is blocked at your office. So you can neither open your Facebook account at office nor you can chat with your Facebook buddies. Recently, I was trying to access Facebook.com in my college using a Wi-Fi connection but the page never loaded. The same was true with Twitter and Orkut. The reason is that the majority of the social networking accounts are blocked in corporate offices, schools, workplace and educational institutions. In such cases, you have to look for workarounds to open Facebook when it is blocked. Here are some options to consider.
Access Facebook with a Secure Web Proxy:

How to download Google Books?
Google Books is the greatest public Internet library but it’s not very convenient to read books there. First – the inbuilt reader is odd enough for long reading and contains a lot of distracting elements such as search box, navigation menus, related books, ads that divert your attention. You have to open browser each time you want to read a book at Google Books. Second, you can’t read Google Books when you are offline (there are still many places without internet connection in the world). You can’t print Google Books and read them in bed, but need to sit in front of computer screen that harms your eyes. And you can’t use your favorite E-Book Reader (such as Sony Reader,

Wi-Fi Tips
Most of us will buy a router, configure it and then forget about it like a bad dream unless you have to troubleshoot it many moons late. Here's a couple of tweaks you can apply to your under-appreciated router.
1)Disable SSID broadcast: tones of wireless security advocates prophesize this as the first step to prevent unauthorised access to your wireless network. People won't know about your Wi-Fi network if their wireless devices can't identify it. To disable your wireless network's name, disable it's SSID or service set identifier. Here is how to do it on most modern Wi-Fi routers. Open your router's admin panel through a browser (find it either at http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.2.1), type in your username and password, and hunt for the wireless settings tab. Once there, look for an option called Disable SSID broadcast and make the necessary changes. Save the setting and your router shouldn't broadcast the network's name anymore.
